1. What is a New Item?
A NEW ITEM is a new experience that you add to your lists.
2. What are the compulsory fields when adding New Items?
Each item must have a date and a name. It's that simple.
You can, of course, add the additional information to provide more detail of your experience, but the additional information is not compulsory.
3. How do I add New Items?
If you have logged in there are 2 ways of adding a NEW ITEM:
Either
- Go to NEW ITEM
- Select a list category:
- Select a list:
- Add a name:
- For example New Town Pizza Restaurant
- Select a date using the calendar
- You can then add the additional information, but it is not obligatory
- Select SAVE ITEM
Or
- Go to Add New Item
- Select a list category:
- Select a list:
- Add a name:
- For example New Town Pizza Restaurant
- Select a date using the calendar
- Select ADD NEW ITEM
- You will then be taken to the NEW ITEM page where you can add the additional information, but it is not obligatory
- Select SAVE ITEM
If you have not signed up:
- GO to Create your list
- Select a list:
- Add an item name:
- For example New Town Pizza Restaurant
- Your information will be saved. Sign up to complete your list
4. How do I use the Create Your Own Category?
You first need to create custom category headings or Labels to create your own list template:
- Go to MY ACCOUNT
- Select Custom Lists
- Go to Add New Custom Category
- Add a CATEGORY NAME for your custom category:
- For example:
- Meals I have prepared
- Add a TITLE LABEL:
- For example:
- Name or Title or Name of Meal
- Add a DATE LABEL:
- For example:
- Date or Date From or Date cooked
- Add a SECONDARY DATE LABEL (not obligatory):
- Add LABELS (not obligatory) within your custom category:
- For example:
- LABEL 1 - Type
- LABEL 2 - Purpose
- LABEL 3 - Origin of Meal
- Select SAVE CATEGORY
You are now ready to start adding items to your custom category.
5. How do I add items using the Create Your Own Category?
Note: You need to create a custom category before adding items. See above How do I use the Create Your Own Category?
There are 2 ways of adding a NEW ITEM
Either
- Go to NEW ITEM
- Select Create Your Own
- Select your custom list that you have already created:
- For example Meals I have prepared
- Add a name:
- For example Chicken Madras
- Select a date using the calendar
- Add items under each label (these are not obligatory):
- Select Type – For example Main course
- Select Purpose – For example Entertainment
- Select Origin of Meal - For example Indian
- Select SAVE ITEM
Or
- Go to Add New Item
- Select Create Your Own
- Select your custom list that you have created:
- For example Meals I have prepared
- Add a name:
- For example Chicken Madras
- Select a date using the calendar
- Select ADD NEW ITEM
- You will then be taken to the NEW ITEM page where you can add the additional information, but it is not obligatory
- Select SAVE ITEM
6. How do I edit an item?
You can edit everything relating to an item:
- Go to MY LISTS
- Select a List
- Select an individual item
- Select Edit
- Make your changes
- Select SAVE ITEM
7. How do I delete an item?
You can delete an item:
- Go to MY LISTS
- Select a List
- Select an individual item
- Select Delete
8. How do I select a date?
Add dates to new items you enter:
- Go to NEW ITEM
- Select date from the date picker or select from the date fields.
Note: You do not have to enter the full date, you can select a month/year or year only.
9. What date should I enter?
The date you experienced the item.
Either start adding your life experiences from today or enter experiences from the past. The choice is yours.

I10. What if I can’t remember exactly when I did something?
Try to be accurate if possible, but it can be difficult to remember the exact date, particularly if the experience is from years ago.

11. Do I need to add names to all my items?
Yes, you will need to add a name to help you identify that experience.
12. What name should I add to an item?
Enter a name that will help you remember your experience and identify what you did. The name you add will depend on the list selected.
For example: For books, it will be the name of the book and for movies it will be the name of the movie. For a party you can add the name of the host or hostess. For Holidays and Trips you may wish to identify the area you visited generally. If you want to list every city or town or even village you visited on your trip, you can enter them separately in the list of Cities and Towns.
13. How should I enter the teams/score on Sports Attended or Sports Played?
You can enter the teams/scores in this way:
- GO to NEW ITEM
- Select either the lists Sports Attended or Sports Played
- Select TEAMS & SCORE: Add Team A 2-1 Team B
- Select INDIVIDUALS & SCORE: Add Individual name 6-3 Individual Name
- Select SAVE ITEM
14. How do I add a Location?
Enter a location where the experience took place so that you can view your experiences on a map.
This uses the Google functionality:
- GO to NEW ITEM
- Location - type in the address
- Select SAVE ITEM
15. How do I add a Rating?
Use the 5 star rating to rate your experience, with 5 stars being the highest:
- Go to NEW ITEM
- Rating - Select how many stars
- Select SAVE ITEM
16. How do I add a Comment?
You can add comments to your items to make them more memorable:
- Go to NEW ITEM
- Comment - Type in your comments
- Select SAVE ITEM
17. How do I add a Photo?
You can add photos to your items:
- Go to NEW ITEM
- Photo - Choose a file and then upload your photos
- Select SAVE ITEM
Note: There is a limit to the size of the photos you can upload. The limit is 1.1mb.
18. How do I make an item Private, Friends or Public?
You can select whether to make each item, Private, Friends or Public.
- Go to NEW ITEM
- Select from:
- Select SAVE ITEM
Note: The privacy settings for each item override the default privacy settings for your lists. So whatever your default setting is for your lists, when you add an item, you can decide whether to make that particular item Private, Friends or Public.

19. How do I add friends to my items?
You can add friends to your items.
- Go to NEW ITEM
- Add Friends
- Type in the names of any friends who shared that experience with you
- Add friends one at a time
- Select SAVE ITEM
Note: You add friends one at a time.
Note: If your friends are members of mylifelisted.com, they will be identified as "Friends", but if they are not members they will be shown as "List Friends".
